Embershard Legends

Embershard Legends surprised me with how much story it fits onto a phone. You build a party of characters, each with their own quirks and abilities, and work through a campaign that actually bothers to write dialogue worth reading. Combat is turn-based, so you're never fighting your thumbs during a fight — you get time to think, position, and set up combos.

The character progression is where it hooks you. There are skill trees that branch in ways that genuinely change how a fight plays out, and I ended up rerolling my party twice just to try different setups. The game respects your time in the sense that you can auto-resolve easy encounters, but the boss fights make you earn it.

It's not perfect — the early hours are a bit slow and menu-heavy, and there's a lot to read before the game trusts you to play. Push past that and it becomes one of the more satisfying mobile RPGs I've spent real time with.
